The NATO is stand for North Atlantic Treaty Organization and also called the North Atlantic Alliance. It was created in 4th April 1949 by the United States Canada and several Western European Nations to provide collective security against the Soviet union.
Soviet union is the union of Soviet Socialist Republics(USSR), Russian or Sovetsky Soyuz. It was nominally a Federal union of multiple National republics in practice its Government and economy were a highly centralised until its final year.
NATO was the first peacetime military alliance. The United States entered into outside of the Western hemisphere after the destruction of the Second World war the nations of Europe struggled to rebuild their economy and ensure their security.
NATO is an intergovernmental military alliance between 28 European countries and 2 North American countries.
The NATO headquarter is located in Brussels, Belgium, while the headquarter of allied command operation is near Mons Belgium.
The new member states has increased from 12 country to 30.

Ukraine had been part of the Soviet union since 1922 but became an independent country when the Soviet union broke up in 1991. The Russian president Vladimir Putin said that the Ukraine is not a real country and its land and peoples are historically Russian.

The main Purpose of NATO
NATO’s essential and enduring purpose is to safeguard the freedom and security of all its members by political and military means. Collective defence is at the heart of the alliance and creates a spirit of solidarity and cohesion among its members. NATO not only had to defend the territory of its members but also engage where it’s possible and when necessary to project its values further a field, prevent and manage crises, stabilize post-conflict situations and support reconstruction. During the cold war NATO focused on collective defence and the protection of its members from potential threats emanating from the Soviet Union.
Who Control’s NATO?
NATO’S Command Structure (NCS) is under the authority of the Military Committee, NATO’s highest military authorities composed of the Chief’s of Defence of all 29 member countries. NCS consist of 2 strategic commands Allied Command Operation (ACO) & Allied Command Transformation (ACT).
ACO, under the command of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), is responsible for the planning and
execution of all NATO military operations, as directed by the North Atlantic Council. ACO consists of a strategic-level
headquarters, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) located in Mons (Belgium), along with two
Joint Force Commands (JFC) in Naples (Italy) and Brunssum (the Netherlands), each of which is capable of deploying
up to a major joint operation capable headquarters out of area. ACO is further organised into three major tactical-level
commands for air, land, and sea operations, each with a dedicated headquarters.
ACT is at the forefront of NATO’s military transformation. It is under the command of the Supreme Allied
Commander Transformation (SACT), who exercises his responsibilities from headquarters in Norfolk, Virginia (USA).
ACT‘s main responsibilities include education, training and exercises, and promoting interoperability throughout the
Alliance. ACT also helps maintain and strengthen the vital transatlantic link between Europe and North America and
promotes the equitable sharing of roles, risks and responsibilities among Allies. ACT operates the Joint Analysis and
Lessons Learnt Centre in Lisbon (Portugal), the Joint Force Training Centre in Bydgoszcz (Poland) and the JointWarfare Centre in Stavanger (Norway).
Is NATO Powerful?
NATO is considered as the most powerful alliance in the whole world. The alliance is based on its 30 allied and their partner Nations to support missions and operations. It has a permanent unified military command structure by which curilians and the military of all member states can work together. NATO is seen as number one for helping in any crisis or disaster happen all over the world.
The relation between the NATO military alliance and the Russian federation pay established in 1991 within the framework of the North Atlantic cooperation Council (NACC). In 1994 Russia join the partnership for peace program and since that time now in Russia have signed several important agreements on cooperation.
In 2021 October after an incident NATO expelled right Russian officials from its Brussels headquarters. Russia suspended its mission to NATO and ordered the closure of NATO’s office in Moscow.

Nato is not a country but it is an Alliance of countries from Europe and North America. There are 30 countries in Alliance with NATO. It provide a unique link between these two continents enabling them to consult and co-operate in the field of defence and security and conduct multinational crisis management operations together.
